The limit group of 5 were given a short handicap of 1:30 to get the legs warm and by the end of the first lap the 5 man scratch group had caught them. Duane McCreadie had to retire with a buckeled wheel after almost coming to grief with Noel Boyce whose derailler when into Duane's spokes at the top of the Springwell hill. They were all together at the end of the second but during the final lap Alan Lavery and Neil McKenna got away and stayed away until the finish which Alan won uncontested in a time of 59:27.
