As far as the Ulster Championships are concerned the road race went the same way as The Olympics in that the best racing (and medals!) was reserved for the women’s race. The pretty seaside village of Blackrock in county Louth played host this year to the Irish National championships for cycling’s A3 riders. Wednesday night was the annual Ardill Patterson Road race held over five laps of the Springwell Road circuit. It’s the only club race held on the open road now with most of the racing having moved to the Kirkistown Circuit so it was a unique opportunity for many club members to experience racing on the roads for the first time…. Yet again the club racing series defied the rain putting on another 25 mile time trial on the Portaferry Road with 23 riders turning out for one of the more arduous events on the club calendar. North Down is committed to the development of young riders coming into the sport and joining the club. In order to provide an environment that is both safe and enjoyable for young riders the club organised a training course spread over two nights in June.
