NORTH DOWN CC GET NEW SPONSORS
An important announcement is expected next Monday evening at North Down Cycling Club’s annual general meeting which will be held in the clubrooms at 7.30pm. The club will announce a sponsorship deal for 2006 involving two prominent local businesses, the Bokhara Indian Restaurant and Samuel Craig Construction. The club is delighted to have obtained their support as it moves towards a new season. The 2005 season ended on a high note when North Down CC was nominated Team of the Year at the Northern Ireland Cycling Federation’s annual awards’ night last week. Success at Northern Ireland, Ulster and All Ireland championships for the club’s youth and veteran riders, coupled with a substantial increase in membership, were the decisive factors in achieving this award and the club committee are confident that the support being offered by the new sponsors will help the club move forward to more successes in 2006.

BROWNFIELD BACK ON FORM
Former Northern Ireland road race and time trial champion Ray Brownfield has made a welcome return to competitive cycling in recent weeks and he was one of three North Down CC riders who took part in last Saturday’s round of the winter cyclo-cross programme at Banbridge. Irish champion Roger Aiken ( Banbridge CC ) has been unbeatable this year , having won his two previous races, but on Saturday he lost valuable time when he punctured. He took a wheel from another competitor and finished the race in third place but he was then disqualified for doing the wheel change outside the designated area. Brownfield was promoted to third place, a terrific performance in his first outing of the season. His clubmates at North Down are delighted to see Ray back in competition and they are hopeful that he will use the winter’s cyclo-cross as a foundation for a return to road racing next year.
