Bokhara Celebrations
The Bokhara Restaurant, King  Street was quite literally bursting at the seams last Monday night when North Down Cycling Club celebrated what has been a remarkably successful year.  In his opening address, club chairman welcomed all those who were attending from neighbouring clubs and, in addition, club sponsors such as Sam Craig, from Aquatech.

After a splendid meal, the awards were handed over by another of the club sponsors, Joy of the Bokhara. Thanks to the efforts of club race secretary, Paul Ferguson, Eric Blayney and Harry Adams, a very comprehensive and diverse racing programme had been delivered in 2007, which produced a multiplicity of award winners.

North Down Cycling Club’s Awards Night

This Monday night promises to be one of the highlights of the North Down Cycling Club’s social season with the annual awards night.  Once again the venue will be one of the club’s major sponsors, The Bokhara in King’s Street, Bangor, with everything commencing at 7.30 sharp with a meal.

Henry – Double National Champion

At the Cycling Ireland Awards Night in Dublin, last weekend, North Down Cycling Club’s Stuart Henry was honoured for his wins in the 3000m junior pursuit and junior 500m time trial at National Track Championships earlier this year.  Henry has in the past won numerous championships at under-age level, but to win championships at under 18 level is quite an achievement for the 16 year old Regent House pupil.

Cycling Club Looks to the Future

Last week North Down Cycling Club unveiled an extensive events programme for 2008.  Once again the mammoth Coastal Challenge Charity Recreational Cycle in June will headline the club’s promotions.  This is an amazing event which has continually grown in popularity in recent years to currently be acknowledged as the premier recreational cycle in the country.  So popular is the event that this year the entry list had to be closed at 700 and it is envisaged tat the 2008 version will be equally popular.

Emmerdale Cyclists!

Following the enormous success of this mammoth fundraising event, originating in Aberdeen some seven years ago, the famous Emmerdale Extravaganza will be coming to Northern Ireland for the largest event yet and North Down Cycling Club has been asked to participate. The event will take place on the 7thof June next year and offers the public the opportunity to meet with the celebrities of the popular television programme.

As well as short recreational cycles with the ‘stars’,there will be other opportunities for the public to interact with these celebrities of the small screen. Events such as off-road driving and even aerobatic displays will be on offer,as well as the usual stalls and family entertainment.
